The important role of car seat belts

Seat belts are the most important passive safety protection devices in cars, which play a role in restraining displacement and buffering. When a collision occurs, the seat belt is locked through the internal locking mechanism, thereby "binding" the occupants to the seats, reducing the risk of secondary collisions, and preventing the occupants from being thrown out of the seats in dangerous situations such as vehicle rollovers, playing a role in protecting and preventing the occupants from serious or fatal injuries. In addition, when the car is in an emergency avoidance, the huge centrifugal force will make the driver unable to effectively control the body posture, and there is a tendency to leave the seat, so it is not possible to control the car well; the seat belt will fix the driver to the seat, so that the driver will not leave the car, always maintain control of the car, and improve the handling safety of the car.

In reality, there are countless accidents caused by not wearing seat belts. John Nash, a famous Nobel Prize winner in economics and mathematician, did not wear a seat belt when driving, when an accident occurred, two people were thrown out of the car and died; on the China Nanhui Expressway, a car had a flat tire. The people in the car were not wearing seat belts and were thrown out of the car after the collision. Five of the six people in the car died on the spot; a BMW 3 Series  was driving in the city and hit the guardrail in Fuzhou, China. Because the driver did not wear a seat belt, he rushed forward and broke the front windshield, causing death. According to statistics, the failure of car drivers and passengers to wear seat belts is the third largest cause of road traffic deaths, second only to speeding and drunk driving. The death rate of accidents without wearing seat belts is about 37.7 times that of wearing seat belts.

Seat belts are so important, we must wear seat belts when driving and riding, and use them correctly. In general, we need to pay attention to the following points:

1. Whether we are driving or riding in a car, whether we are sitting in the front or back seat, and whether we are in the city or on the highway, we must wear seat belts.

2. The wearing posture must be correct. The three-point waist safety belt should be tied at the hip, not at the waist. The shoulder safety belt cannot be placed under the arm, but should be hung diagonally on the chest. The safety belt can only be used by one person. It is strictly forbidden to use it with two people, let alone twist it. When used by pregnant women, the waist safety belt should be tied as low as possible, under the round belly. Children under 6 years old should not wear seat belts, and should use child car safety seats. In addition, do not let the seat belt press on hard or fragile objects, such as glasses, keys, pens, etc.

3. Even if there are more airbags installed in the car, you must wear a seat belt. The airbag is actually an auxiliary device for the seat belt. Only when the seat belt is used can the airbag fully play its role in protecting the occupants. It is very dangerous to rely solely on the airbag. The airbag explodes with great force. If there is no traction buffer of the seat belt, the body directly hits the exploding airbag, and the chance of physical injury is very high.
